I am surprisingly hopeful for my first module of WRITING FOR NEW MEDIA. I have made a decent start; I been to every lecture, lab and tutorial so far. But more importantly, I have begun taking notes, not for myself but for the disability service notes. Basically, I am helping out an unknown classmate that needs a bit of help with class and I write notes on classes and send them an email of them. I don’t mean to brag but I am doing a very good deed but also, I am taking advantage of this opportunity to do well in the subject.
I have noticed heavily in the last few months that I have lost the ability to take good, clear notes. In my opinion, I used to be a pro at taking notes. In my prime, at the beginning of my Leaving Cert studies my notes could explain basic algebra to a monkey but nowadays I would confuse even Einstein with them. One of my favourite and most important teachers from those times used to say:

“Don’t work hard, Work smart.”
I feel that this is vital when it comes to taking notes. If I wanted, I could write down every work that the lecturer says, even when she tells us her dog in unwell, but is that any help to the person I’m writing the notes for. Instead, I shall only take notes of the important things, to optimise my time and the time of the unknown person reading my notes.
Hopefully from taking these notes I will become an ‘A’ student in this small class, even though this subject will inevitably only help me write down people’s names on their Starbucks coffee.
